Essential Tips for Hair Extension Appointments: Pre- and Post-Care

ARRIVE WITH CLARIFIED, DRY HAIR

• New and Current clients must arrive with clarified, dry hair at the installation appointment.

• Before coming to your appointment use a clarifying shampoo to wash your hair and arrive with hair fully dry.

• If a client arrives without clarified, dry hair: A $150 fee to prepare hair for extension installation with clarifying shampoo and to blowdry your hair fully will be added to the booking and charged to your card.

ALL NEW HAIR EXTENSIONS CLIENTS

• Two appointments are required. A consultation, and an installation appointment.

• During the consultation, color and length selections are purchased and ordered for delivery to the studio.

• The second appointment may be no sooner than 72 hours after the consultation (to allow timely hair delivery.)

EXTENSION AFTERCARE TIPS

HAIR WASHING BASICS

• Extensions should always be applied & removed by a certified professional.

• Coloring or toning extensions is not recommended. 

• Sleep with hair braided.

• Brush hair three times daily, beginning at the ends of hair. 

• Use a lopped extension brush to keep roots detangled.

WASHING TIPS

• Wait at least two days to wash hair after application of Clear Tube, Keratip, Skin Weft or Smart Tabs.

• Only use products recommended by Charlie Taylor Studio.

• Hair care products should be lightweight & gentle.

• Avoid products that are color enhancing, organic, vegan, specific for dandruff or hair regrowth.

HOW TO WASH

1. Wash hair approximately twice a week.

2. Brush hair before washing.

3. Divide hair in half for a deeper clean on bottom layers.

4. Apply shampoo to wet hair from root-to-ends. Comb fingers through and rinse. 

5. Apply conditioner avoiding extension bonds. Comb fingers through hair, let saturate and rinse.

6. Use a repair treatment every other week.

HOW TO STYLE

1. Remove excess water by applying pressure with a towel.

2. Partially air dry hair before blow drying.

3. Avoid prolonged heat near extension bonds. 

4. To help detangle, apply a recommended detangle spray onto wet or dry hair. 

5. Apply recommended solution to hydrate & smooth ends. 

6. Use ceramic styling tools on medium to low heat with a thermal protectant spray.

THINGS TO AVOID

• Never leave extensions in longer than recommended.

• Never go to bed with wet unbraided hair. 

• Never let sunscreen, tanning products or alcohol come in contact with extensions as they may become discolored.  

• Never go swimming with extensions as they may tangle and change color.

• NOTE: If you can’t avoid swimming, wash immediately once out of water and apply a recommended protective solution.
